Care and Maintenance
Maintaining your brand new installed vinyl pool liner is not just important; it is essential for preserving its beauty and functionality over time. A well-cared-for liner significantly enhances the overall aesthetic of your pool, creating an inviting oasis for relaxation and fun. Moreover, proper maintenance extends the lifespan of your liner, ultimately saving you money on potential replacements or repairs in the future.
Regular upkeep helps prevent common issues like fading, cracking, and algae buildup, ensuring that your pool remains a safe and enjoyable environment for family and friends. By dedicating time to simple maintenance tasks, such as routine cleaning and checking for leaks, you can guarantee that your vinyl liner stays vibrant and durable. Embrace the satisfaction and peace of mind that comes with owning a stunning pool that stands the test of time and brings joy to your outdoor space.
1. Maintain Proper Water Chemistry
Balanced water is the #1 factor in liner longevity.
Keep these levels in check:
-
pH: 7.2–7.6
-
Alkalinity: 80–120 ppm
-
Chlorine: 1–3 ppm
Avoid large chemical swings—over-shocking or low pH can weaken or bleach the liner.
2. Always Pre-Dissolve Chemicals
Granular chlorine, stabilizer, and other strong chemicals should be dissolved in a bucket of water before adding them to the pool.
Direct contact with the liner can cause bleaching or wrinkles.
3. Use a Soft Pool Brush Only
Avoid metal or stiff brushes.
Use a vinyl-safe soft brush to prevent scratches or wear spots.
4. Keep Water Level Consistent
Never let the water drop too low.
Low water puts pressure on the liner and can cause:
-
Liner shrinkage
-
Wrinkles
-
The liner pulling out of the track
5. Protect the Liner from Sharp Objects
Keep pets, toys, furniture, and sharp cleaning tools out of the pool.
Even small punctures can turn into large tears.
6. Avoid Draining the Pool
A vinyl-lined pool should never be drained without a professional.
Draining can cause the liner to shrink, float, or tear.
7. Use a Pool Cover in Off-Season
A winter or safety cover helps protect the liner from UV exposure, debris, and chemical evaporation.
8. Prevent Sun Damage
Run the pump regularly so water circulates and chlorine doesn’t settle in one spot.
If the pool is uncovered, UV exposure breaks down chlorine quickly—keep chemicals balanced.
9. Clean Stains Early
If you notice stains, treat them promptly.
Organic stains (leaves, acorns) can imprint into the liner if left too long.
10. Be Gentle When Entering the Pool
Use steps or a ladder—don’t jump in near shallow walls where the liner is more vulnerable to stretching.
Do:
- Learn maintenance and chemical procedure.
- Maintain proper chlorine and PH levels.
- Clean the liner, especially the dirt ring above the water line (Use Swimming Pool Vinyl Cleaner).
- Make repairs immediately.
- Properly winterize and cover in the off season.
Don't:
- Lower the water below 2′ in the shallow end without the advice of your dealer.
- Use any chemical products other than those specifically made for pool use.
- Neglect maintenance (including cleaning and chemicalization).
- Allow dirt to accumulate (regular brushing of the walls should be part of your maintenance program).
- Allow glass or sharp objects near your liner.
