Opening and Closings
At Excel Pool Service, we take care of every stage of your pool’s season—from professional openings in the spring to thorough closings in the fall. Our experienced team focuses on reliability, attention to detail, and quality service, so your pool is always properly prepared, protected, and ready to enjoy. Instructions
Our Pool Opening Services Consist of the Following
Removal, folding, and storing of the cover in a cover bag, if available.
Removal of all winterizing plugs and gizmos (skimmer blowout tubes) from pool;
Installation of directional return fittings, hydrotherapy fittings circulation jets, ladders, handrails, skimmer baskets, gauges, etc.
Prepping of the equipment pad, filter system re-assembly,
System startup, and leak inspection;
Heater start-up and ignition test
Testing of GFCI outlets at electrical post;
Removal of timer pins.
NOTE: Please allow the system to run 24 hours before setting timer pins or placing the system back on scheduled automation.
All required materials for the opening (including, but not limited to, eyeball directional jets, ladders, ladder bumpers, handrails, safety cover storage bags, etc.) must be available poolside for our technicians. Missing items will require an additional service call at customer’s expense to complete a proper opening.
Additional services upon request
Water treated with shock and algaecide ($60.00);
Heater cleaning ($55.00)
Salt cell cleaning ($75.00)
Salt Systems:
Our technicians will leave salt systems OFF because the water may be too cold for the cell to produce chlorine, and the water will have to circulate for 24 hours before verifying the salt level.
24 Hours After Our Technician leaves:
It is the homeowner’s responsibility to obtain a water test from a reputable pool store in order to properly balance the pool water with appropriate chemicals.
All winterization items will be left POOLSIDE for the homeowner to put away for the summer season.
NO POOL CLEANINGS: Pool cleanings and vacuumings are NOT part of the Pool Opening Service and are not services that we offer at this time. It is up to the homeowner to clean the pool after opening.
Our Pool Closings Consist of the Following
Remove Timer pins.
Power down automation systems.
Turn off breakers
Remove return jet fittings and skimmer baskets.
Winterize the pool’s plumbing lines: Blowout and seal lines using plugs and skimmer tubes like Gizzmos (green) and blowouts (blue)
Remove ladders and handrails
Remove drain plugs from the equipment components( filter, pump, chemical feeder, and heater.) *Usually stored for the winter in the pump housing basket.
Remove the sight glass and pressure gauge*
Set valves ( including the multiport) to winterized positions.
Install the main pool cover. A safety cover or tarp cover with waterbags is recommended.

All required materials for the closing (including, but not limited to, the safety cover, plugs, blowout tubes or “gizmos”, waterfall hardware, etc.) must be available poolside for our technicians. Missing items will require an additional service call at customer’s expense to complete a proper closing.

The safety cover storage bag will be left POOLSIDE for the homeowner to put away for the winter.
NO POOL CLEANINGS: Pool cleanings and vacuuming are NOT part of the Pool Closing Service and are not services that we offer at this time. It is up to the homeowner to clean the pool and balance the chemicals before the closing.
