Tarp Cover Maintenance

Keep the Cover Secured

  • Always keep the tarp cover held in place with water bags so it does not sag or slip into the pool.

  • Make sure the cover remains tucked under the water tubes at all times.

Clear Dirt and Debris

  • Remove all dirt and debris from the cover.

  • Blow off dry leaves with a leaf blower.

  • For wet leaves, gently push them off with a pool brush. Do not pull them, as the weight of wet leaves can rip the cover.

Remove Standing Water

  • Use a pump to remove rainwater and melted snow.

  • We sell manual cover pumps for $99.00 + tax, which can be delivered and set up on the day of your closing.

  • You may also purchase a small submersible pump from Lowe’s or Home Depot—just let them know it’s for a pool cover, and they’ll guide you to the right option.

Pump Recommendations

  • Do not use an automatic pump on a tarp cover. If the tarp has a small hole, pool water can seep onto the cover and trigger the pump, draining the pool and leaving it half-empty.

  • Instead, use a manual pump that only runs when plugged in and stops when disconnected.

Regular Checks

  • Walk around the pool every few days to ensure the tarp is secure.

  • Clear away leaves, dirt, and standing water so the cover doesn’t sag or slide.

  • If even one corner slips into the pool, water will drag more of the cover under. Removing it is very difficult without extra help and may require a service call.

What Not to Use

  • Never secure the cover with cinder blocks or bricks. If they fall in, they can damage the liner.

  • Use only water tubes, sandbags, or water-filled 5-gallon buckets. Water tubes are best, and replacements are available at most pool stores.

Tears, Rips, and Warranty

  • Tarp covers and water tubes can be damaged by rodents or birds.

  • The warranty only covers manufacturing defects, usually limited to seam separations.

  • Be sure you filled out the warranty card that came with your cover. If you did not receive one, let us know and we can provide it. In most cases, warranty claims are not worth pursuing.

Sharp Corners

  • Pools with sundecks or 90-degree corners can cause wear on tarp covers. This is not covered under warranty.

  • Place padding (12” square is enough) over sharp areas before the cover is installed. Carpet remnants, towels, or old liner material work well. Have this ready at closing, and our technician will secure it for you.

Snowfall

  • Snow will collect evenly on the cover and water tubes.

  • The weight of the snow helps secure the cover by pressing down on the tubes.

  • As snow freezes, it bonds the tubes, tarp, and concrete together for added stability.

  • Always ensure the tarp remains properly tucked under the water tubes.
